Superstitions in Belarus

  There are a lot of superstitions in our life. Even if you don't believe in them, you will surprise Belarusians if you show you know some of their superstitions. I want to say that modern man does not believe in superstitions, and if he does, in a very small degree. I collected a few surprising, at first glance, superstitions of Belarusian people. And - we offer to your attention!

• Don't sweep the floor, when your expensive person has gone anywhere, so that you doesn't cross his way to your house.
•  Don't play with a knife - a quarrel may occur.
•  After sunset, new bread isn't cut, as it can lead to quarrels and money deficit.
•  The salt cellar with salt shouldn't be handed over from hand to hand. It's necessary to put it on the table.

•  If you need to give someone a needle, you need to slightly (as a joke) prick this person, that there where no enmity with him.
•  That's two brothers doesn't quarrel, they sew one magnet into their clothes.
•  If someone is named by name of the person, after person left, then this person, when he comes, will be angry.
•  If you carry water and spit, then the husband will be a drunkard.
•  You musn't bathe in the bath and think about the bad - you will get sick.
•  Water can not be scolded - you will insult the water god (vodyanoi), the owner of the lake or river.

•  You can not put the house on the trail: it can lead the host of the trail to death. When a hut is laid, silver or copper coins should be hidden under its corners.
•  A good sign for entering the new house is the full moon.
•  Black cats are considered as animals of the witches, thats people are scary when they see them.
